Chapter 4: Restoring Image Files with Drive Image DOS34
Overview
This chapter describes restoring a Drive Image image file to a different drive or partition.
To restore only selected files from a compressed or spanned image file, see “Restoring
Files or Partitions” on page 67.
If you received a demo version of Drive Image, you cannot restore image files.
IMPORTANT!
If you create an image on one machine and restore the image on a machine
with a different configuration (for example, a different motherboard or
video card), the operating system may not boot correctly.
If you are restoring an image file to set up a new hard drive on a machine with a BIOS
older than 1994, see “Using Drive Image with Drive Overlay Software” on page 86.
Restoring Images from CD Drives
When you click Browse at the Select Image File screen, your CD drive will display as
\\.\pqcd
x
, where
x
is the number of the CD drive. Select the drive, and the image file will
display so you can restore it.
Your CD drives may also display with drive letters. Although you can restore using drive
letters, PowerQuest recommends that you click Browse and choose the \\.\pqcd
x
designation instead.
Restoring an Image File
1
Disable virus detection in the BIOS.
If virus protection is enabled, Drive Image may hang after you click Finish to restore
an image file.
2
At the Drive Image main screen, click Restore Image.
You can also choose buttons and menu commands using the keyboard. See “Using
Drive Image without a Mouse” on page 9.
